Nocturia is a prevalent urinary condition that significantly disrupts sleep due to the frequent need to urinate at night. The existing diagnostic approach heavily relies on patient-reported bladder diaries, which are prone to inaccuracies and poor compliance. This research, supported by the NTUitive POV Grant, aims to address these challenges by developing a portable, point-of-care urine osmometer that enables continuous monitoring and profiling of urine osmolality over day and night cycles. This device provides an objective and quantitative assessment of nocturia severity to assist in personalized treatment planning. The major pain points in nocturia management include the lack of objective diagnostic tools, reliance on imprecise patient-reported data, and ineffective treatment strategies based on trial and error. This project introduces a urine osmolality profiling device, enabling clinicians to make evidence-based decisions, leading to improved patient outcomes. Currently, prototype development is underway, and clinical trials are being conducted to validate the device’s efficacy.
